Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

On this page, you will find some of the most commonly asked questions about SKO. If you can’t find the answer to your question below, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at info@sko-oegstgeest.nl or on 071 515 98 00.

Do you have a waiting list?
Many of our childcare centres have waiting lists due to high demand. Places only become available in the event of withdrawals, schedule changes or children moving to a different type of childcare. We also consider various other criteria when allocating childcare places, such as your preferred start date and days, the number of days required, your child’s age and sibling priority. Places are more likely to become available on Wednesdays and Fridays.

What are my chances of getting a place?
It depends on your preferred days, the number of days required, the flexibility of your schedule and so on. For example, places for one or two days of childcare become available more often than places for three or four days. If we offer you fewer days than your preferred number, we recommend accepting the offer and remaining on the waiting list for the other days. Places are more likely to become available on Wednesdays and Fridays, so please let us know whether these days are good for you. You can remain on the waiting list for other days.

Where am I on the waiting list?
Our system does not operate on a first come, first served basis. Your position will depend on various factors, such as your preferred start date and days, the number of days required, your child’s age, sibling priority and schedule changes or withdrawals at our centres. Once a place becomes available for your child, we will notify you promptly. You do not need to take any action.

How will I know when a place is available for my child?
As soon as a place becomes available, we will contact you via email with an offer. You do not need to take any action.

When should I register my child at SKO?
For day care, we recommend registering your child as early as possible. We will consider your preferences and strive to accommodate your needs. We accept registrations for after school care when children reach the age of two.

How can I arrange a tour?
You can take a virtual tour of our childcare centres on this website. If you have been offered a place at one of our centres, you can schedule an on-site tour — just let the centre know and someone will contact you to arrange a date and time.

Does registration guarantee a place at SKO?
We will make every effort to offer your child a place at the childcare centre of your choice. However, priority is given to children with siblings at SKO and children who are moving from day care to after school care within SKO. This means that we cannot guarantee a place. Moreover, we may not be able to accommodate your preferred start date due to high demand. We recommend you contact other childcare providers in case SKO cannot offer you a place within your preferred time frame.

Why can’t I register my child for just one day of baby or toddler care?
Research shows that certain factors affect the quality of childcare. Based on this research and our own experience, we have decided to set a minimum of two days/childcare sessions per week for baby group and playgroup contracts. This helps to ensure high-quality childcare — building trust and creating familiarity are crucial to a child’s sense of emotional security and overall development.

Is there a registration fee?
No, registering your child for the waiting list is free of charge and non-binding.

Is there a cancellation fee?
There is no fee for cancelling your registration. If you choose to withdraw from the offer after signing the contract, cancellation fees are as follows.

Cancellation fee when you cancel at least one month prior to the start date of your contract: €50.

Cancellation fee when you cancel within one month prior to the start date of your contract: the cost of one month’s childcare as stated in your contract.

Who do I contact about my registration?
Our customer service team handles the registration process. When a place becomes available, a member of the team will contact you with an offer via email.

How do I register my next child?
Please email your registration to info@sko-oegstgeest.nl. Let us know your due date and your preferred start date so that we can put you on the waiting list. When a place becomes available for your child, we will contact you via email. You do not need to take any action.

How do I withdraw my child or reduce my childcare sessions?
You can withdraw your child at any time with one month’s notice. This notice period also applies to reducing the number of sessions; for example, you might want to go from four to three days of childcare per week. You can email us about withdrawing your child or reducing the number of sessions at info@sko-oegstgeest.nl.

Where can I find information about the childcare centre my child attends?
You can find information about our childcare centres on our website. Each centre has an information booklet for parents whose children attend the centre. A link to this booklet can be found in the parent app.

What are your childcare rates?
We charge a fixed monthly fee for the number of childcare days per week. Your monthly fee depends on the amount and type of childcare you have chosen. You can find our rates on our website, as well as a tool to calculate your net monthly costs.

Do your rates change every year?
Yes. We will notify you of our annual rates for the upcoming calendar year in the last week of November. To ensure that we can continue to maintain healthy business operations, certain adjustments are necessary to accommodate wage and inflation indexation.

We offer three types of childcare service:

Do you offer flexible contracts?
We do not offer flexible contracts, such as half days, flexible sessions, 40-week contracts or school holiday childcare only. This is because most of our childcare centres have waiting lists. Moreover, we believe it is important for children in our care to experience stability and familiarity.

Why do I receive invoices for toddler care in July and August when playgroups are closed for summer?
SKO adds up the total number of childcare hours for the year and divides it by 12. You therefore receive the same invoice every month, just like you receive childcare benefit every month. This spreads out childcare costs evenly.

Am I eligible to receive childcare benefit?
This depends on various factors, including your household income. You can apply for childcare benefit through the Dutch Tax Administration. All information can be found here

Information about applying for or making changes to childcare benefit can be found on the website of the Dutch Tax Administration.
