What am I wearing today?

Nel is busy with story plates and the theme of clothing.

A question I ask myself every morning. Do I wear pants or that nice skirt or dress with black tights underneath? Should I wear sneakers or boots? Reading a book with the kids on the floor wearing a skirt is not always flattering, especially if you have to get up quickly when the phone rings or if you have to help someone. From the sitting position I then roll over into the crawling position and then hoist myself on something so that I am upright again, well… it is not easy. That's why I usually prefer pants.

The crickets (children) in the group, on the other hand, are often less concerned about how they look. They don't mind at all if a dress is too small, the colors don't match, they maybe wear three T-shirts on top of each other or prefer to come to the group as Pippi Longstocking or Mega Mindy. As long as it's not the choice of mom or dad.

My 2.5 year old granddaughter is also such a portrait. Don't you dare come up with a dress or pants that she doesn't like. For example, I once had her put on something that I liked so much with great difficulty. I was completely happy with the result. Had it not been for the fact that in an unguarded moment she had sneaked upstairs and put on the too short dress she liked so much over her carefully chosen outfit and later showed me her dressing up triumphantly. Then try not to laugh…

At the group we are also working on the theme of clothing. We recently acquired 15 talk plates (a favorite wish of mine to have these records on the group one day has come true) and on 1 of those talk plates it is about “clothing”. “Which clothes do you prefer to wear? Are you wearing short or long sleeves? Is it a red or a blue sweater? Who has the color yellow in his/her clothes? What do you wear when the weather is cold? What do you wear when the weather is warm?”, in short, enough to talk about.

There is a lot to see on a talking plate. It makes children curious. The beautiful picture on the plate invites the children to point and touch it and challenges them to talk. It can also be a nice occasion to sing, dance, play, think and imitate. The talking plate hangs at the eye level of the children so that they can look at the talking plate at any time of the day.

When I see a child looking at the picture out of the corner of my eye and hear his neighbor say: “Look the girl doesn't like it at all in the store. She finds the store (clothing store) boring” then I can only enjoy what such an image brings about. I can't imagine at all that a girl would find a clothing store boring, but this aside :-). The boy had looked at the girl's facial expression in the picture and had drawn his conclusions. Great to see that he involved his neighbor as well. In addition to the educational aspect, the talking plate also has a nice social aspect.

And ………not unimportantly, some crickets can dress and undress themselves in response to this theme.
