"Cheers!" In the auditorium, about fifty students and employees of MBORijnland and childcare organizations Floreokids, SKO and Wonderland raise a glass to the start of the two-year BBL training Specialized Pedagogical Employee. It is the festive conclusion of the introduction day of this training, which has been shortened from three to two years. The organizations have worked closely together to ensure that students can now graduate faster.
Festive start of two-year Specialized Pedagogical Employee training
Halfway through last school year, the three childcare organizations and MBORijnland, who had been working together for some time, started discussing how they could shorten the BBL (vocational guidance pathway) training. The needs have been carefully inventoried for this. Which subjects are compulsory, which electives have less priority, what knowledge can the organizations possibly impart to the students? “It has really become custom-made. There are now two classes of 25 students: one from Floreokids and one from SKO and Wonderland together,” says Angelique van den Berg, teacher of Pedagogical Work and study career coach. She is pleased with both the shortened trajectory and the intensified collaboration. “As an MBORijnland, you want to keep up with what is going on in childcare and there are simply too few staff. That is why we are proud that we succeeded.”

The morning program of this 30ste August is, as usual on an introduction day, all about training, the school and getting to know each other better. Van den Berg explains about the one weekly school day and home study day, the periods, types of subjects, tests and exams, the practical training and the study portfolio. Getting to know each other is done by means of everyone's bunch of keys, after which the students are allowed to explore the enormous school building via a treasure hunt with a bingo card. Two current second-year BBL students then tell you everything about the student portal.
Children!
After the lunch break, the professional field provides two workshops. SKO-Wonderland gives group assignments. The preference for the age groups 0 to 4 years or 4 to 12 years appears to be equally divided. What do you think about working in childcare?, the students may write down. Children! cosiness! Pleasure! “Paste your answer somewhere, so that in the daily hustle and bustle you never lose sight of why you started doing this,” is the advice. During the workshop Floreokids looks for it more in the group discussion. Among other things, on the basis of a test that shows what type of pedagogical employee you are: someone who mainly supports the children emotionally, who prefers to provide information and explanations or who offers a lot of structure and boundaries. "It's good to have all types in a team."

The childcare organizations find the shortened training a solution. “We can barely manage it, but we just need those BBL'ers”, says Annemarie van Kommer of Floreokids in the auditorium after the toast. Her colleague Maartje van Velthoven adds: “Often they are older students who have already completed their education or who have stopped to follow their heart and start working in childcare. That makes it interesting for MBORijnland and us to specifically attribute this training to them.” “The new trajectory is good for us to fill our flexible shell more, a breeding ground for permanent employees,” says Annemieke van der Vaart of Wonderland Kinderopvang. Wanda Donker of SKO points to the subject matter from the 'disappeared' third year, which will now partly be discussed in practice. “Let the trainers at mboRijnland offer what they are good at, then we will adapt to that. A lot is expected of the students themselves, but I have every confidence in it.” And for those who do not make it within two years, an extension to three years is possible.
