The Log Cabin

Over the years, the Log Cabin on the recreational island of Koudenhoorn in Warmond has become a true SKO tradition. During the spring, summer, and autumn holidays — and occasionally on an after-school care afternoon — we love taking the children to this special spot for a day full of outdoor life and adventure. The fact that families already take the Log Cabin schedule into account when planning their summer holidays speaks volumes.

De Blokhut is a simple accommodation owned by the municipality of Warmond and used by the Tjarda scouting association on the island of Koudenhoorn. Surrounding it is a play forest, and on the island you will find a petting zoo, a playground, and a small beach. The most wonderful adventures are experienced at De Blokhut: searching for animals, collecting pockets full of pebbles, barbecuing together, toasting bread rolls, sharpening branches, and building huts and rafts. We make fishing rods out of branches to fish — the record stands at 9 fish in one day! And we also make our own bows and arrows, with a water balloon as the target. Every week there are challenging activities such as scavenger hunts, Belgian hide-and-seek, swimming, belly dancing, Bas Bingo, an island tour, and a boat trip on the pedestrian ferry.

During the summer holidays, each SKO location will have the opportunity to organize activities around the Blockhut for a few days to a week. During other holidays, the older children can come for a day, spread out over the week.

We depart from our own location on Log Cabin Days and finish there as well. However, we want to make the most of the day — so we prefer to set off early and often return later in the afternoon. If this is inconvenient for parents, we will look for a solution; if not, we will discuss it.
Parents are in any case very welcome to get a taste of the holiday atmosphere and to pick up or drop off their child during the activities on the island.

The group's permanent pedagogical professionals are always present, and on Blokhut days we deploy extra staff to ensure all activities are properly supervised. Safety comes first: based on a risk assessment, a Blokhut Safety Work Instruction has been drawn up, which all after-school care staff are trained in.

Parents are informed of the Blokhut schedule in a timely manner via an information letter, the newsletter, and the holiday program. View Koudenhoorn at Google Maps.
