Who are we?

At SKO, we guide children in Oegstgeest as they grow up, discover, and become themselves. Our pedagogical professionals work with enthusiasm, expertise, and heart. We are firmly connected to families and the local community: we know the children, we know the parents, and we grow with them. Our locations are not childcare facilities, but child development centers — places where children play, experience, grow, and collect stories.

Core values of SKO

  • Safe and trusted
We ensure that every parent and every child feels immediately welcome. Warmth, genuine attention, and professionalism form our foundation. Children feel seen, valued, and safe enough to play, learn, and grow. This also applies to our pedagogical professionals – because they, too, need space to be themselves, to learn, and to grow. When colleagues feel at home, they can guide children even better.
  • Discover, experience and learn
Everything you give attention to grows. So much happens in a child's first ten to twelve years: motorically, socially, creatively, and emotionally. At SKO, we stimulate all these aspects of a child in a meaningful way. We monitor every child using our own scientifically validated child tracking system – paying attention to how comfortable a child feels in their own skin (well-being) and how well they become absorbed in play and activities (engagement). Our pedagogical professionals grow along with this: new insights, science, and everyday practice combine to form a learning culture. For those who feel good about themselves and remain curious learn the most – both the child and the colleague.
  • Experiencing and growing together
Children learn the most through play. Play is where they discover who they are, how the world works, and how to get further together than alone. At SKO, play is embedded in everything we do. We help children develop the confidence and courage to play – whether they do so naturally or need a little support. Our groups and approach evolve with the children's age and developmental stage, ensuring that every child receives the right space at the right time – for their own choices as well as for working together.
  • Engaging and challenging
With us, every child receives exactly the space needed to take the next step: from “I’m ready!” to cycling to after-school care on their own. We remain involved in every phase, grow along with the child’s world, and collaborate with partners in the neighborhood. This also demands something of our pedagogical professionals: they continue to develop through training, coaching, and collaboration within and outside SKO. And we challenge, innovate, and improve each other – for the children and for themselves.

Developing yourself

At SKO, we believe that development never stops. Children grow every day, and our colleagues grow with them – in their own way and at their own pace. Through coaching, peer supervision, and SKOol, our own training platform, everyone is given the space to experiment, explore, and continue challenging themselves. Because with us, everyone – from the youngest toddler to the most experienced pedagogical professional – can take initiative, assume responsibility, and fulfill a role that suits their talents. Together, we form a community where learning and development are a matter of course. Curious about how we view leadership at SKO? Read our Read our vision on leadership here

Together in Oegstgeest

To us, 'Together in Oegstgeest' means truly being part of the village. We work closely with parents, schools, sports clubs, care partners, and the municipality — not alongside each other, but with each other, with the child at the center. We call this Integrated Child Thinking (IKD): childcare, education, care, and leisure as one coherent whole centered around every child. Curious to know how we view this? The most important partners are, of course, parents. In addition, we work closely with all schools in Oegstgeest — as the largest provider of daycare and preschool groups, but also because we provide lunchtime supervision at most schools and the out-of-school care is often literally located next to the school.

Sports and physical activity are a big part of the lives of children in Oegstgeest, and we are happy to be a part of that. The Top Teens hang out in the canteen of Korfball club Fiks, our sports group de Cuyl is at home in Sports hall De Cuyl, and the group The Clubhouse can be found on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday on the grounds of tennis club Unicum. With our SKO bus, we take children to and from the swimming lessons at Poelmeer and we drive to virtually all sports clubs, music lessons, and dance schools in the village. We sponsor at ASC the youth line with vests and bees LOHC the hockey school.

We enjoy working with Center for Youth and Family and the municipality of Oegstgeest — among other places around the Youth Prevention Agreement and appropriate, inclusive childcare. Bergen Music School is a good neighbor, we rent the buildings from scouting associations Tjarda and Sagara Satrya or support them at events such as Hut construction Oegstgeest. And we provide transportation for the museum visits of Okidoo.

Do you also want to contribute to an even more fun childhood for the children from Oegstgeest? We work on a neighborhood basis, so it is best to contact the Location nearby. Sponsorship requests are welcome at our department. communication, but please bear in mind: we are not-for-profit ourselves, so we usually prefer to collaborate on something beautiful for 'our children or our colleagues'.
