Safety & Health
We believe it is important that children can discover the world around them in a safe environment. Together with external agencies, we look at how we can minimize major risks at our locations as much as possible — while simultaneously teaching children how to deal with minor risks. This builds self-confidence and resilience, and aligns with our pedagogical vision.
In our Health & Safety Policy Plan Read how we handle major and minor risks at all locations, so that children and pedagogical professionals can play and work safely and healthily.
We invest in ensuring that all employees are certified in First Aid and Emergency Response and keep this knowledge up to date annually through refresher training. Not because it is mandatory, but because we believe that everyone in the group knows how to act when it matters. In addition, many locations have a security system on the front door, such as a tag system or code lock.
We conduct an annual risk assessment to tighten our safety policy, in which we follow the guidelines of safety.nl follow. In addition, the fire department inspects fire safety, and the Municipal Health Service checks on behalf of the municipality whether we meet the statutory quality requirements. The outdoor play equipment is inspected periodically and repaired if necessary. The iinspection reports from the Municipal Health Service can be viewed publicly and per location.
Happy & Vital
At SKO, safety and health go beyond rules and protocols. We want to encourage children—and staff—to lead a happy and vital life. To this end, we work with the Healthy Childcare program and have trained coaches who share their knowledge. Furthermore, in our activity program, we consciously choose experiences that provide children with the knowledge and skills to lead a happy and vital life. Think of outdoor physical activity, creativity, nature, and positive social interactions. Read more about our project group here. Happy & Vital at SKO.
Nutrition
We also attach great importance to healthy and sustainable food. Read more about this in our food policy.
Sleeping safely
To minimize the risk of SIDS, SKO follows the sleep advice of safety.nl, as included in 'The 4 of Safe Sleep in Childcare'. This is how we ensure that children sleep in a safe and healthy way. The safe sleep protocol is part of SKO's Safety and Health policy.
